Let’s compare the Two of Cups!

The Two of Cups is one of the quintessential card for relationships.

Staying in the Suit of Cups, we see two figures, standing closely together. The reason that this card is quintessential relationship card, is that it highlights two figures in a partnership of some kind, similar to The Lovers. We see with both cards that the figures are close, their heads touching, or almost touching in a tender embrace.

Regardless of the relationship between the characters, this card represents the emotional bond that comes with any relationship – friendship, lovers, familial. It represents the connection that comes from a relationship.

The Two of Cups from the Tarot of the Divine features two prominent figures from literary history. This card draws from the Epic of Gilgamesh. While the Epic of Gilgamesh has been a long-standing myth across human history, if you haven’t had a chance to read it, I’ve linked a wikipedia post here. It has a brief overview of the myth and resources to do some additional research on your own if you like!

I love more in the Santa Muerte deck (left), how the figures are the cups. As well as how one figure is filling the ‘cup’ of the other. The Tarot of the Divines (right), shows Gilgamesh and Enkidu, which are the original warriors, always fighting side-by-side, and relying on each other’s guidance and strength.

Overall, both cards are wonderful examples of what the Two of Cups represents and both cards express that well. The color vibrancy in the Tarot of the Divines is lovely and rich, and feels almost like a storybook. While I usually lean towards the Santa Muerte deck, I will say that this card is a bit to busy and drab for me – the colors, while vibrant, are earthy and not quite as bright as other cards within the deck.
