Let’s compare the Six of Wands!

The Six of Wands comes to us with direction and movement. Both of these cards seem to call us to begin to move, to join these crowds and move forward with them. The Santa Muerte deck shows a gathering of bright colors, but whether this crowd is celebrating or moving in, say, a mob, is hard to tell. In the Tarot of the Divine, we see a woman mounted on a horse, leading a group with raised spears, but it feels like being lead to a victory.

The figure that is the focus of the Tarot of the Divine is a warrior princess named Yennenga. This legend comes from the Mossi people, who live in Burkina Faso. I was unfamilliar with this place; it is a small country in West Africa close to Niger. The legend of Yennenga is one of a great warrior, who was so prized by her father, the king, for her prowess in battle, that he refused to let her marry. Even though she wished to have a husband. She ran away and found herself a husband with whom she had a child. Here is a link regarding this legend and how she is revered as the mother of her country.

Both cards show the progression that comes with moving in a group, and moving into the life that would suit us the best. This can also be a sign to lean onto the support around us to help support us through the work and action needed to fulfill the life we want.
