Let’s compare the Knight of Wands!

As we continue our own journey through our Court cards, we come to the Knight. Knights represent our adolescence, the journey from being young into being an adult. In our cards here, we see brave fighters atop their respective steeds. I love how in the Santa Muerte deck, we have our horse as a skeletal figure as well. For the Tarot of the Divine, our brave warrioress is astride a goat; for those unfamiliar with goats, they are also formidable creatures and would make a great a warhorse if only they were big enough to ride. Or less stubborn. I also appreciate how the Tarot of the Divine’s figure has her cloak that looks like spread wings as well.

The Tarot of the Divine takes it’s inspiration from Norway for this focus. This draws from the story of Tatterhood. Here is a link to the whole story, from the University of Pittsburgh! The story follows a typical fairy tale, of a queen that longs for a child and meets a witch who makes it so. And the child is Tatterhood. She is a brave character, who loves her twin sister dearly and sets off on adventure to save her, the sister. She is called Tatterhood because she was born ‘ugly, riding a goat and brandishing a wooden spoon.’ But this young woman is fearless and using what she is given, she makes her way in the world and finds love for her and her sister.

The Knight of Wands is a card that calls to action, that calls to the reader to be brave and to fight. Both cards inspire courage and the lust for a fight. When you find this card in your reading, hopefully your own deck inspires you to want to battle the challenges that have come your way.
