Let’s compare the Page of Wands!

The Page of Wands starts our court cards for the Suit of Wands.

The Page is a court card that can symbolize youth or inexperience. In both cards, we see young people, almost playful and teasing. With the Santa Muerte card, we see a young figure, sitting on a swing and holding a scroll; he seems to be speaking right to you. In the Tarot of the Divines, we see a young figure gallivanting through the brush. Both figures seem to be carefree.

The Tarot of the Divines card is based on a myth from the Republic of Congo. This myth comes from the Nyanga people. It is usually an oral storytelling. The myth follows a boy, Mwindo, who is depicted in the card, and his journeys in escaping his murderous father and seeking refuge with his aunt. Throughout the story, Mwindo remains joyous and clever, and through the allies he makes on his journey, is he able to become a wise and great ruler. Here is a link to a Wikipedia article that goes over the story

The story of Mwindo is a great card to represent the Page of Wands, as the Page card is also supposed to be a card that leads into being a wise leader, which will be represented by Kings of any Suits. Both cards represent the joyfulness of being young, while also beginning to prepare to become an adult. The joys of childhood include the making of mistakes and learning, so that we can step into the fully-fledged adults and leaders we need to be in this world.

These cards show a similarity outside of their artwork; where we’ve seen other cards have similar traits and similar meanings, these cards have similar meanings and different art.
