Daily Tarot Draw: Nov. 4, 2020

I am on the edge of my seat for the results of the election and this anxiety is killing me! I just want to know what the future holds.

Today’s card, more fitting than yesterday’s card, is the One of Wands.

This is the start of a new cycle of actions. If anything, this is a good card, showing that change is coming. Maybe it’s personal change, developing a new habit or starting a new hobby.

Not to use Tarot for unintended purposes, but I feel this card is a good indicator for the future; while Tarot is for guidance only, I feel that we can be hopeful about the future, even knowing that we are on the edge of a precipice.

I know we are all waiting with bated breath, and I am ready for what the future holds. We can do anything if we stand together and fight for a better future. While at this moment, there is still a chance for the future to go either way, we can still make the future we want to see; one where we can appreciate the environment and help our communities and live happy, full lives without fear of scarcity or poverty.

Witchcraft 101: Grounding

In these tough times, the hardest thing to do is keep your senses and your mind clear enough to actually make a difference in the world.

Between the world recovering from a pandemic to the current the current political and racial tensions plaguing American, anyone who feels emotions heavily is feeling drained. You don’t need to by an empath to even feel drained from the constant hits this year keeps bringing.

The easiest thing you can do as a witch during these trying times is to ground yourself and ground yourself often.

Grounding is the process of connecting yourself to the earth. Grounding is what you do to help get your emotions and thoughts in order, especially before going into figurative battle against the Karens at your workplace or the injustice in the world.

Grounding can be a part of meditation and is useful for centering yourself and knowing how you want to proceed through a task or obstacle.

You can ground during daily meditation sessions or whenver you feel overwhelmed with everything.

The easiest way to ground is to literally just find some ground and take a few minutes to breath. Many people have access to gardens or parks of some kind; grounding should become a part of your rituals and practices because it can help you regain focus on your thoughts and help you ground your energy back to you.

Why should you ground? Why is grounding so important?

Grounding the first step before any spellwork; you should always be aware of your emotional state before starting spellwork or any magic working. If you focus on the wrong emotion during a spell, it won’t work or it won’t work in the intended. Grounding is also a good way to decompress after a stressful day or stressful situation by helping you focus.

Many ground by just sitting or touching earth of some kind. Maybe you can do this during a meditation session, during a daily gardening session, or during something like a yoga routine every day.

Grounding is something that takes a bit of practice, like meditation; while an easy and cheap thing to pick up as a new witch, it does take some practice to understand how your energy feels before and after. I like to repeat mantras to myself while grounding; like in meditation, it can help a busy mind settle down and focus on one topic.

You can ground in many ways and there’s so many ideas about how to ground out there. Don’t be afraid to ask how others do it and see what works for you; that’s the whole point of witchcraft! We can help each other by providing new ideas and new perspectives while still being able to make the rules for ourselves about how we want to practice our individual beliefs.

Daily Tarot Draw: Nov. 3, 2020

My little gremlin heart is so excited for today’s card in that dark kind of way. With everything happening for the election today, we are standing at a massive crossroads and we need to focus our energies on making sure that we are doing the best we can to keep ourselves safe, our loved ones safe, and that we’ve done our part as adults to try to change this country. No matter the results, this is a turning point and the next FOUR years are going to bring change into our lives.

And I didn’t even need a Tarot card for that!

But today’s card is Death! Now, the experienced reader (or at least those who know better than to trust the face value of the card), know this card does not inherently represent death.

The Death card is the 14th card in the Major Arcana cycle. While the name may be a little deceiving, Death is like the The Devil; they may seem scary at first but they represent parts of the human life that we need to have. Death represents major changes. Death can also represent figurative death, like the death of a cycle, the death of an idea, the death of a habit that didn’t serve you. I love the illustration of this particular deck for death because it is so… revered. Death is depicted as a mother, praying over her crib, instead of the Rider-Waite deck which depicts Death atop his horse clad in armor. This Death is gentle, but ever-present, common, but beautiful. Death should be respected for what it is in all of our lives; a change in you by changing those you can have around you. Death is so common, yet so feared, even though it is so necessary for the energy of the world to flow properly (from a purely scientific view, death is one of the things we need in nature for the environment to thrive; go look up the nitrogen cycle).

Death popping up today of all days isn’t a coincidence. There is so much changing and stirring today and we need to be ready for the changes. Whatever happens, today is the turning point and we have the power to change the future to the way we want it to be. We have the power to call our representatives and demand action, we have the power to call our local governments and demand action, we have the power to help our communities by being there for the less fortunate, being there for those who need a shoulder and for those who just need a friend. We have the power to reduce our own impacts on the environment, we have the power to demand companies change or we will quit buying. We hold all the power and now is the time to use it to change the world.

I’m sure you can see why I was so excited to have pulled this card today of all days.

Spend today enjoying the sun, soaking up the last little bit before it gets to cold to be outside all the time (or for my Southern Hemisphere residents, until summer kicks into high gear). We sit on the cusp, but we can’t make the world spin faster so enjoy a moment of peace before we meet in the trenches to fight for a better world. But tomorrow. Today is for us.

Daily Tarot Draw: Nov. 2, 2020

I think the hardest part about reading Tarot on any given day is when you have the days where you just can’t get the words to work. You can look at the card and know what it’s supposed to mean, but you’re a little stuck on how it’s supposed to translate into the words we speak and write.

Today’s card is the Five of Swords.

Swords represent thoughts and mentality. Fives represent challenges. Has anyone else noticed that as we move through a Suit, every other card is basically something like ‘challenge’ or ‘conflict’ or ‘setbacks’? I think it’s a great reminder that on any journey there will be setbacks and challenges as you move closer and closer to your goal.

While we should always challenge our own mentalities, this card is calling out that we need to challenge others’. With America looming on the presidential election, we need to remember to stand against those who are prejudiced against justice, peace, and equality. We need to vote, we need to start these hard conversations with our friends and families, we need to work harder to preserve what future may be left for the human race. For many of us, this is the first step we can take to make a difference in the world and to be the type of people we want to see in the world.

Please remember to vote, even if you’re not American; voting is the best way you as a citizen can influence the changes you want to see in your country, your city, your community.

Daily Tarot Draw: Nov. 1, 2020

Is anyone else feeling full moon hungover? I didnt even get a chance to make moon water last night! But oh well, there will always be another chance. At least I was able to manifest last night, so the next spooky Halloween blue moon will be even better.

Today is the Three of Pentacles.

Pentacles represent the material world and wealth. Threes represent initial growth and progress.

The Three of Pentacles can represent the growth you’ve had in your wealth and the progress you’ve made towards financial wealth or financial freedom.

While you may be at a point where you’ve noticed a change, remember that there is still much to come. Threes are a long way from the end of the cycle so this is a sign to keep going even though you’ve noticed progress. Keep your nose to the grindstone and keep working hard to achieve your goals.

Daily Tarot Draw: Oct. 31, 2020

Today is the spookiest day of the year and I’m so sad I have to be at work all day and miss all the festivities! But with the full moon tonight, and th day off tomorrow, I’m definitely going to enjoy what I can get!

Today’s card is the Knight of Swords.

Swords represent thoughts and mentality. Knights are one of the court cards which can represent either a person in reality or represent a certain stage of life.

Knights mostly represent the adolescent or youth. When paired with the suit, many court cards can act as the doorway into how that life stage can interpret the suit. For instance, with this being the Knight of Swords, this can represent how many adolescents view thoughts and mentality, such as impatience, restlessness, or stubbornness in your mindsets.

While these can be good qualities, like standing your ground against bad mentalities of negativity and racism, these can also narrow your perspective by keeping you from understanding other’s point of view.

Today should be about understanding others and looking for a way to grow mentally as we head into a stressful time of the year.

So far, we’ve pulled a lot of cards and we’re getting closer and closer to our giveaway! Sign up for our giveaway now so you can win a mystery Tarot deck kit!

Everything has been so crazy and honestly, I know I’ve lost focus! I lost focus on what I wanted to do, why I’m doing anything, what I’m trying to accomplish. That’s also why I should focus back on reading Tarot more; Tarot is a great way to keep yourself focused and to get insight onto what you’re focusing on. By taking a few minutes every day to center yourself and find your focus for the day, you can help keep yourself on track. I guess that’s why they say that Tarot should be a daily habit.

Habits are hard to build though, so as long as we make progress, that’s all that counts.

Today’s card is the Fool.

The Fool is the first card of the Major Arcana, and serves as the starting point of the cycle. The Fool symbolizes the way we are all beginners or we started as beginners in some aspect of our lives. The Fool is a headstrong, hopeful figure, keen on getting better.

The Fool showing up today is a great indicator that you are either starting a new journey, or that it is time to start a new journey. Even though it is the middle of the week, there’s never a wrong time to start a new chapter in your life. Whether this means putting yourself out there and looking for a new job, spending time on getting back to school, or just generally starting a new project to make your life better.

While now will be a great time to start a new venture, just remember that the Fool only represents the beginning of the process, and is not the indication that you will succeed. Every journey will have twists and turns and will be different than anyone else’s journey. You may succeed or you may fail, but this is a journey you should still try, to test your limits, your strengths, your passions.

I’m so excited for tomorrow I can barely contain myself! Some of my friends even want me to read Tarot for them and I honestly couldn’t have hoped for a better witchy coming out than what I got! I love my friends so much!

But we’re not here about tomorrow, we’re here about today! So let’s get into it.

Today’s card is the Seven of Cups.

Sevens are understanding and faith. Cups are emotions. At first glance, this card makes me want to say ‘Choices, choices galore!’ but something we should all work on is finding the calmest reaction sometimes. We jump headlong into most things and say the first thing we can decide on, but part of growing your intuition is trusting it and letting it speak instead of your heart or mind.

And my intuition is telling me this card is about honoring your past. To me, this chest of cups reminds me of the fancy china cabinet my grandmother has, where she has her nice wedding dishes, her mother’s nice dishes, some random centerpieces collected through the years from aunts and friends and gag gifts. But these cups are dredging up those faint memories of my grandmother asking us to get the nice dishes out for Christmas dinner, and on the days we would polish the silver for her arthritic hands and she would recount stories of her youth and her mother and her aunts.

Now, these memories are wonderful and nostalgic and fill you with that feeling of knowing who you are and where you’ve come from, even if I groaned internally through them as a child.

The veil is the thinnest right now, as we head into those festivals that honor the dead, like Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos. So honor your past and remember that even if it was hard and bad and you wouldn’t wish it upon anyone else, it is what has brought you here today, where you can learn from those lessons and become something besides the product of your environment. Honor those who came before you and fought to be here, honor those who gave you love, and honor those that came before you.

Make an altar space today, or create an ancestor altar space where you can give offerings to your ancestors that have brought you to this point. Or take the time to just say thanks to those who have given you the support you needed, like your friends, your family, your mentors and teachers.

We’re getting through this deck and hopefully, baring the inevitable repeat cards we’ll see near the end, we’ll get to see the end before the new years? There’s only around 50 or cards left we haven’t seen so it should go fairly quick!

This month is just flying by. I swear it seems like just yesterday was the start of the month and now we’re on the cusp of Halloween and the blue moon! And I have a Halloween party on Sunday to finish preparing for!

But let’s try to get back into the groove of Tarot and looking at this absolutely lovely cards!

Today is the Five of Wands. Wands are one of those suits we haven’t seen a whole lot of so it’s nice that it’s finally popping back up!

Fives are change or conflict. Wands represent actions.

While the literal translation might be that there will be change in actions, or a conflict, I think the imagery is more telling. We watch a figure lighting matches, but he’s running out in his matchbox. it kind of has the vibe of him almost gleefully wasting his chances. By striking a match that has no purpose, it takes away the chance for the match to be used for what it’s intended. It feels like a foreboding card, warning you against wasting chances that you think will be there in the future.

Maybe that’s just me being a little cynical, but I think we should be wary today of the chances we take thinking that we’ll be able to restart. While you are always able to restart your life at any time, some chances only come around once, like finding your life partner, nailing your dream job, or stumbling across a chance to make new family or friends. While you can always take a chance on another car, another job, another class, another meal, somethings you should take care in the fact that they only come around once and you should cherish those chances, whether taken or lost for the opportunity it gave you.

We’ve pulled a lot of cards now, but we’re no where near the middle of the deck! Luckily that means we have a lot of time left to learn something together from this deck.

The last week has been oh so busy with me prepping for a costume party which I’m hosting, neglecting school work to try to clean up my backyard, and just general running myself into the ground with school and work. I hadn’t even realized that a week had passed between this post and well, the last post! I guess the old phrase should be rewritten as ‘time flies when you’re busy out the ass with countless tasks and an unbearable work load’.

On to the card!

Today’s card is the Wheel of Fortune. I’m seriously considering that this deck is literally just Major Arcana cards and Swords at this point. At least it keeps it interesting and we haven’t had a repeat card. This little break in posting has also given me the time to look at decks and assess my budget for the giveaways so I can get you all something amazing!

The Wheel of Fortune is the 11th card in the Major Arcana. It is the middle of the cycle of the Major Arcana suit. Many see this card as a card of fortune and luck. I actually see this card as a ‘the world keeps on turning’ card.

Now, the vibes I get from this particular card, and it may just be from this deck, but I feel that this is a card to say you’re in the middle of it all now and it’s going to keep coming. And that’s not a bad thing but it’s not a good thing; it’s very much neutral. I’m not sure how many of you have heard of existentialism, but I get the vibe from this card that it is very much existential; you are here, you exist, and your journey is not done yet.

Knowing that this is the tail end of what can be described as our worst year of existing yet, and personally, I’m drowning in school work and house work and money work and haven’t even had time for spell work! But I suppose that’s how life works from time to time. We just have to keep working and rolling through it until we can get to an oasis or meadow where we can rest appropriately and fully, and regain our balance and heading.

It has been a whirlwind of activity at my house the last few days; we’ve decided sort of last minute to have a Halloween/fall/pumpkin carving party at the end of the month and we are hustling to get everything just right! I’m talking lights, I talking snacks galore, I’m talking just the right ambiance of spooky but cozy, I’m talking pumpkin guts, I’m talking costume mandatory or there’s a spooky punishment. I’m so excited and it’s the first actual party I’ll be throwing as an adult at my adult house with my adult friends!

But onto today’s card!

Today is the Nine of Wands. This is seriously only the second Wands card we’ve pulled, which is because the deck apparently has like 50 pentacle cards; I swear, it’s like every other day is a Pentacle card and we haven’t had any repeats yet.

Wands represent actions. Nines are fulfillment. Knowing that Nines come at the end of the suit, we can assume that Nines are there to remind us that we’ve come a long ways and should be proud of our journeys.

For today’s card, I’m actually getting a call-to-arms kind of vibe. Knowing that my own yard is in need of some heavy care, I actually think it’s hilarious that this card, showing a woman reaping some crops or trees with her scythe. So apparently the action I’m being called to today is yard work!

Another way to read this card for all of you that have other things more pressing in life that some overdue yard work, is to reap what you have sown to this point. It is the harvest season after all! Maybe this means finishing harvesting your garden which you literally sowed earlier this year. Or maybe it means you should take the actions to get the reward for having worked so hard. Maybe that means pulling a little out of your savings because you’ve been smart and getting yourself a festive latte(you know the one), or taking the time to sit back and appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into your schoolwork by celebrating all you’ve learned this year.

Sometimes reaping and harvesting are hard work as well, but the end result, of having the supplies you need, the knowledge you gained, the progress you’ve made, is worth it all in the end. Remember to be proud of the work you put in.

Here are all the cards we’ve pulled, including the measly two Wands we’ve pulled. I mean, we’ve pulled more Major Arcana cards than we have Wands!

I know it seems like I never post and that’s because sometimes I just don’t have the time! While I may be able to carve a good 10-15 minutes out of my mornings to draw a card, doesn’t mean I have the resulting 30 or so minutes after that to write a whole post about it! (And if I hear the advice of get up earlier one more time I’m shoving a broomstick in a place most people do not want it). But that’s life sometimes! We can strive to be perfect all we want, but all we will be at the end of the day is the best we could’ve been for that day.

Now onto our card of the day!

We are just getting hit left and right with these Major Arcana cards!

The Lovers are one of the easiest Major Arcana cards to read at first glance, along with Strength and The Tower. Unlike some cards with much deeper meanings (looking at you, Death, The Devil, and literally anything else Major Arcana), just by looking at the card you know it represents a couple.

The Lovers represent, well, love, companionship, as well as choices. Within Tarot, many of the cards depicting anything in two, such as all of the Twos, represent choices of some kind. Where the minor arcana can be used to divine what kind of choices you may have to make, like finances, actions, or just a decision in general, The Lovers are above that; the choice The Lovers represent may be very much a Robert Frost type of choice; two paths diverge and you must take one, but you can only take the one. (And if you actually read deep into that particular poem, you will understand that both paths are equal in result, but different)

But today, I’m reading this as love and relationships. I know this past week I’ve been neglectful of my relationships with my family and friends and I should take the time today to rekindle and reconnect. I know I’ve also been particularly difficult to deal with on my live-in mechanic/significant other, so I’m going to go out of my way today to make his favorite dinner since I haven’t been a very good housemate/significant other lately.

Take some time today and call your mom, hug your love a little tighter, play with your kids (furry or human) a little longer. I forget too often that a lot of people care about me and I forget to show them love back because I’m still uncomfortable sharing emotion freely. So do just the little things today to show you know they love you and you love them back.

It feels like such a long time since I last drew for us all! Between school this semester (ugh, chemistry is just as horrible as I anticipated) and a full work load, I’ve barely had time to even look at my deck. But we’ve still got the rest of the deck to get through and a deck to giveaway!

Today’s card is The Star! We haven’t gotten too many Major Arcana cards into the circulation yet so it’s nice that we keep getting more. Especially since we have to cover them all!

Each Major Arcana card follows through the journey of life, starting the the Fool representing the beginning of life and the journey, and ending at the World, coming full circle. The Star is actually the 18th card in the 22 cards of the Major Arcana. Even though the card says its only the 17th, the cycle starts 0 with the Fool.

The Star is towards the end of the deck and is after we’ve done all our growing and changing after the upheavals of life. The Star represents hope and rebuilding. It actually comes immediately after The Tower in the deck.

So if we’re being told to be hopeful, to rebuild, to look to our future, I think we should remember that this year alone we’ve gone through so much, as a country, a society, and individually. So while we do have a lot we need to focus on for our futures, we should still focus on giving ourselves the hope we need to see in the world.

One of my most favorite quotes is from Avatar: the Last Airbender, from dearly beloved Uncle Iroh; ‘if you only look for the darkness, that is all you will find.’

So let’s be hopeful going into a strenuous and scary time of the year, and even if something falls through, like this dreaded election or your car payment, let’s focus on taking care ourselves and our loved ones through this. Besides, Samhain is coming up and we should celebrate what we have been able to reap from this year’s poor crop.

Take care of each other out there, witchlings!

Witchcrafy 101: Protecting Yourself

Protecting yourself while practicing witchcraft is one of the major things to learn before actually casting spells. I know as a sweet little witchling you are ready to jump right into your first spell, but we have to talk about protecting yourself before hand.

Now if you have any social media and follow just one witchy page, you’ve seen possibly post upon post about crystals, cleansing, essential oils, sigils, salts, waters, and everything else under the sky.

While there are spells for protection, this is just about protecting yourself and your energy.

Don’t mess with something you don’t know

This is the easiest way to protect yourself. Do not, and I mean under any circumstance, do not mess around with anything you haven’t previously researched.

This goes double for trying to summon spirits or deities. Unless you have spent time researching how to summon or banish or manifest or ANYTHING. Always learn before you try to do anything and always be cautious; if it doesn’t vibe with you, don’t do it. You may need more time to learn and you may need more experience before you can go though those spells and workings.

Cleanse yourself and your space

Protect your energy by cleansing your spaces regularly. And not just a regular sweep and mop. Cleanse your space regularly with smoke and sound and cleansing with moon water. This will keep your space on the right vibes.

With regular cleansing, you’ll feel when the vibes are off. This will keep you safe from invoking bad vibes or bringing them home with you.

Use water and crystals

Crystals are great at helping preserve energy, banish energies that don’t serve you, and keep your energy to yourself. But also go and research which crystals would work best for you and what you need to bring into your space.

Always research proper crystal care in regards to charging. Clear quartz can always be used a substitute if you don’t have the necessary crystal or if you’re poor af like me and can’t afford multiple crystals.

Moon water, from different moon phases, can also be used in multiple ways to protect your energy. Making moon water is super easy.

Charms and Totems

Charms and totems are items you can bring along with you to influence your luck and energy. Charms take their root from wivestales and folklore, like a horseshoe or four leaf clover. Totems and talismans (talismen?) are those you keep with that are intricate and relate to your deities or have a set intention when being made, such as being used for just protection or just manifestation (lucky cat talisman anyone?). An amulet is more lowkey and is something you can either give an intention or let be for general use.

Keeping yourself healthy

Outside of all the fancy magic and herbs, you need to keep yourself healthy in general. You need to drink water, sleep often, eat good food (I’m a sucker for fries but we still need some real vegetables). We need to take care of our physical bodies to keep our spiritual bodies healthy too.

You can’t do spirit work if your body hurts and your hungry.

Delve deeper into protecting yourself. Please be careful as we get closer to Halloween and people ask about seances and summoning and all that good stuff.

Daily Tarot Draw: Oct. 3, 2020

The last couple days have been a whirlwind of me practicing some beginner-level feng shui, which really means I’ve just been moving a bunch of shit around my house. Gotta get those vibes right. Luckily my office space is almost perfect and then I’m going to get some of the witchiest decor my minimum wage ass can afford!

Today’s card is the Five of Pentacles. Looks like somehow, with all the Pentacles I’ve pulled in the last month, there still more Pentacles. Gonna pull like the 23 of Pentacles tomorrow.

Pentacles are materialism and wealth. Fives represent conflict and change. Even in the imagery of this card, we can see a figure walking over a pile of skulls, with some being green and more square that the rest of the skulls. I think the green skulls are supposed to be like art or sculptures of skulls, as they do not exactly have the same roundness as the other skulls pictured. Sculptures and art are usually a sign of wealth; if you are wealthy, you can afford to have fine art in your house, which shows that you have money to blow on the nonessentials of life (housing, food, etc.).

I’m kind of torn on how to interpret this card.

On one hand, I’m draw to the meaning as being don’t be a greedy asshole; don’t walk over others on the path to wealth and financial freedom. Like, don’t walk over others that are in the same position as you and don’t overly hoard your resources so that others cannot have any. But that could be me riding the emotional high of Election Season (scary than spooky season).

On the other hand, I’m reading this as indulge in some art for your space! I know it seems counterintuitive, but maybe we need to invest in our spaces so that we don’t feel quiet so horrible about the place we have to come home to, the place where we’re supposed to be decompress and recharge from the world. So get some art that doesn’t make you feel like the weight of the worlds is on your shoulders for just two minutes of the day. Now don’t go and blow rent money on an undervalued Picasso, but get a poster of your favorite show or paint a mural in your dining room or by that candle holder for $3 on clearance because it looks like a bunny.

I guess this card will speak to you in a different way than me because i think we’re all having conflicted views on the world at the moment. Tell me in the comments what you think this card is showing to you.

Daily Tarot Draw: Oct. 1, 2020

I held out as long as I could, but I gave in; I bought my first Halloween decoration of the season. She’s the cutest little skeletonized gnome! She even has a black cat, just like my little boy! Go check out the Insta for blog updates and little tidbits I can’t exactly turn into a whole ass post. (Follow me @the_drunken_witch on Instagram)

But onto what we came here for!

Today’s card is the Eight of Swords. I love the imagery in this card. The swords raised in defiance to the storm above, the storm itself almost personified with its own face. In any other circumstance, I would be wary of the storm’s face being skeleton, but this whole deck is skeleton people so we can’t exactly take an obvious warning there.

Eights represent movement and change. Swords are thoughts and mentality.

With the coming election for America in just about a month, I’m sure we’re all riding a wave of anxiety and rage as we’re forced to try to write the wrongs that have plagued the country for the last few years. This is the time of year were we can make a change, we can make a movement. We can do what’s best for ourselves, our communities, our country. After the debacle that we unfortunately call the presidential debate, there is no reason we cannot all show our individual power in voting to keep this world from plunging down a road we cannot return from.

Register to vote, vote as early as possible, and continue to pressure your friends and family to do what is right.

We’ve pulled these cards so far and we’re making quick work through our deck.

Daily Tarot Draw: Sept. 29, 2020

Are you guys as ready for spooky season as me? It’s the time for baked goods, lattes, corn mazes, and all things SCARY! I’m so excited for what this next month is going to bring.

But let’s get onto the card and get our daily dose of Universe Sass.

Today is the Six of Cups. It seems that after almost a whole month of being sassed about my actions and my thoughts and my money habits, we’re finally getting sassed about our emotions.

Cups represent our emotions and our heart. Sixes are compassion or problem-solving. When I see this card, I get a feel of balance; it takes a lot of balance to hold 6 cups, especially the way she is. In the Rider-Waite deck, the card is vastly different, showing two young figures surronded by light and full cups. But for this card, I feel like it’s reminding me to have balance in my emotions. Normally, 2s or 4s represent balance, but that’s part of being able to read a card intuitively.

I’m going to work on having more balance in my life today; between working with adults that act like children, trying to keep up with school, trying to get together with my friends, trying to get everything set up here and on my new Instagram account for the site, and having to maintian a household, I know I’m losing it a little. Maybe you see something different in the card; let me know in the comments!

Witchcraft: why I chose to practise witchcraft…

I grew up as the good little church going girl, you know, Sunday school and the whole shebang. So what happened?

I got over the whole ‘organized religion’ thing at the start of puberty. I felt that there wasn’t anything I could learn from a bunch of stuffy old people sitting in a stuffy church reading the same stuffy stories about how people shouldn’t do this and that.

It was boring and, honestly, pissed me off. Who was this stuffy god to tell me who I couldn’t be and what I couldn’t do? I hated having to hear the same thing every time and be told who I was supposed to be.

So I quit that shit.

I quit listening to these guys telling me who were trying to tell me who I could and couldn’t be. I quit listening to all the bullshit.

Then I spiraled for years trying to find my footing through trauma and tribulation. I tried to push spiritual growth away in favor of science. Of course, I love science and I love scientific discovery. I still do.

So why the hell wouldn’t I pick witchcraft?

I chose to practice witchcraft because I can marry my love of science and the unknown. I can live freely without judgment from someone who thinks they know me and my journey. I can live without fear of breaking some hidden rule. I can make my own path, I can live my own life. I can look at the natural world and know why a bee buzzes and a flower grows and all the things that make them tick, but I can also appreciate them deeply, appreciate them for what they bring to the world.

I can understand why people choose to practice witchcraft with the gods of their choosing; it is much more comforting to go through life with someone with more power than you on your side. I can also understand why witches like me are secular in practice; we do not need to look to a divine being to appreciate the world in all its splendor.

I’m not nay-saying the act of choosing a god or goddess as your patron; I’m just explaining why I choose to practice the way I do.

I love science, I love knowing how the world works, knowing how every little thing is connected to each other, knowing how I fit into the world and those around me fit together in a giant tapestry of living, breathing, LIFE.

As I ramble now, I practice witchcraft because it can use some of the what we know as facts now, such as the use of a placebo to make someone believe the world is turning in their favor, as well as trying to explain the things we can not yet comprehend like spirits, the afterlife, the way our minds and bodies connect.

Witchcraft has always been in people’s blood; the need to know, the need to understand, the need to comprehend ourselves and each other. We have looked to the stars for eons and we have looked to the elements for some type of answer, we have assigned meaning to the greatest aspects of human nature and human experience. Why wouldn’t I give in to the natural feelings we have all felt as humans, roaring through space on this little planet without guidance and without direction, towards who knows what? Why wouldn’t I want to be a witch knowing that even if magic is fake, magic isn’t real, I can at least give myself something to be curious and hopeful about? Why wouldn’t I give into human nature of looking for answers and understanding of the universe?

That is in short, why I have chosen to practice witchcraft.

Daily Tarot Draw: Sept. 28, 2020

The weather has taken a turn here and is finally feeling more like fall finally! Now if only I could make a dent in all the schoolwork piling up! But today we’re bundled up under the lovely blanket I knitted up last winter and we’re having a good strong cup of coffee to get today kicked off right!

Today’s card is another Major Arcana card! We’ve just a few pop up this month but there’s always room for more; the more the merrier!

Temperance is a card that comes later in the Tarot deck, near the end with The Tower and The Moon and The World. Temperance it self is a strange little word, meaning abstinence or self-restraint. The card Temperance means self-healing and finding the middle ground.

For today, we should focus on finding balance and the middle ground. Perhaps this means finding middle ground at work between opposing views on a project. Perhaps this means finding the middle ground within your own family. Perhaps this means finding the middle ground between politics (I mean, finding the middle ground, but not adhering to it; we have to meet some people halfway before they are willing to go all the way to our side). We should strive to understand multiple perspectives and use that to our advantage to learn more about others and to understand others. In understanding others and where they are coming from, we can learn how we are perceived and learn how to help others to perceive the world as it really is.

So far, we’ve made a sizable dent in the deck! Maybe once we get through this deck we can do another giveaway with a new deck! Let me know what you think in the comments!

Tarot 101: Bonding with your deck

When you’re new to Tarot, you’re probably thinking about how you can learn to read Tarot. But before you can start slinging cards for your friends, you have to learn about your deck! And I don’t just mean reading the books and such.

Each deck has its own vibe; you know how your perfectly fine remote control can sometimes act up of its own accord or your car sometimes doesn’t like to start right away on rainy days? Things like that? Well, your deck is the same way; it has it’s own energies and vibes and you have to learn how to deal with them.

So bond your deck to learn how to cope with your deck giving you attitude! But how do you bond with your deck? How do you learn to deal with your deck giving you grief about everything?

Spend some quality time with your deck!

Drawing every day

Drawing every day is a great way to learn about your deck by being able to spend some one-on-one time with every card. With everyone having a crazy busy life to begin with, a daily draw is a great way to take a couple of minutes to yourself to learn about the deck.

Shuffling and sorting every day

One of the ways to also get a vibe for your deck is just shuffling your deck and getting a feel for the cards themselves. Not only will you get more used to the size and feel of the cards themselves, it’ll help you get a vibe for any cards that seem ‘jumpy’. These are cards that keep wanting to pop out of the deck during shuffling. Sometimes these cards have special meanings for you.

After you’ve spent enough time shuffling or if you’re finished for the day, I like to sort the cards back into order. It’s a nice way to wrap up your own feelings from the reading and draw the energy to a close. It also keeps the energies from a reading from sticking around in the deck.

Charging your cards in light

Charging your cards in the light can help them absorb some energy they need to sass you properly. Everyone talks about the full moon for a reason! Leaving your deck under the full moon is a good way to charge your deck with energy without letting your deck get faded in the sunlight. However a little sunlight never hurt anyone! Leaving your deck for a few minutes under the sunlight to get some valuable solar energy is a good way to clear old energies from the deck and keep it fresh.

Talking to your deck

This one seems like a no-brainer, but also a little strange. When you’re first learning about your deck and first learning to draw cards, even your own readings, you’re going to struggle with setting an intention or using your intuition to read the cards. When you’re first starting out, don’t be afraid to verbally ask your questions to your deck. It’ll help you get comfortable with asking questions of your deck as well as how the deck likes to interpret your questions.

You need to bond with your deck every time you get a new deck. Don’t be afraid to try to bond with your deck and get to know your deck. Don’t be afraid to sit there shuffling for hours and hours because you want to get comfortable just holding the deck. Don’t worry about just sassing your deck back because it gave you three reversed cards even though you know none of the cards had been reversed.
